Our Earth contains many chemicals and minerals. To give you an example; The ashes from a volcanic eruption contains chemicals that gives the area where the ash fell the ability to grow a more abundant grassy or forest area. The compounds in the volcanic ash is similar to the household garden type of powder you may apply to you garden to help your garden grow better. In the layers of our planet, Earth, are contained many different types of chemicals and minerals that contribute to the working of our planet. Uranium is one of these chemicals. In 1896, French scientist Henri Becquerel, accidentally discovered a strange phenomenon. From a book, Chemistry Make Simple, by John T. Moore, it states that, by placing a sample of a mineral called pitchblende, he placed akey on top of a photographic plate. When Becquerel later developed the plate, he found he had a photo of the key, thence, radioactivity. Currently, uranium is being mined for use in making nuclear bombs in Iran and in Algeria. I, for one, have the opinion that Iran should not be able to mine uranium. The only reason they are mining Uranium is for destruction of our Earth. What part does uranium play in our Earth's structure? Perhaps an important part and the over mining of important chemicals and minerals, such as uranium, that plays a part in the health of our trees and forests, could be hazardous to our conservations efforts.
